Dr. Moran analyzes polarimetric observations of coronal mass ejections from SOHO/LASCO to determine three-dimensional structure. The figure shows a halo CME reconstructed from 3 orthogonal angles using the polarimetric analysis technique. Dr Moran will continue this work using observations from the upcoming STEREO mission.

Dr. Moran is also studying solar magnetic fields in the temperature minimum region using IR observations in the Mg I 12 micron line at the National Solar Observatory (NSO) at Kitt Peak, Az. Observations have shown the presence of two components in sunspot penumbra. A search for magnetic field fluctuations in sunspots and pores is being performed using time-resolved Mg I observations.
