ianfisk_photo_md.jpg The Flatiron Institute is the in house research group of the Simons Foundations.   Flatiron was founded in 2016 with the mission to advance scientific research through computational methods, including data analysis, theory, modeling and simulation.  The primary areas of research are astronomy, biology, quantum systems and mathematics.  In this presentation I will discuss the experience building a new multi-disciplinary science institute and the current status.   I will present the architectural, cultural and technical design choices and lessons learned during our first four years.   I talk about the current trends in data intensive science and how we support them.   I will conclude with some examples of scientific developments and plans for the future.
